"MAYOR BARAKA APPOINTS LAKEESHA EURE DEPUTY MAYOR FOR PUBLIC SAFETY; ALSO NAMES TWO NEW MUNICIPAL DIRECTORS"

Newark, NJ – January 17, 2024 – Mayor Ras J. Baraka announced today the appointment of LaKeesha Eure as Deputy Mayor of Public Safety. Simultaneously, he appointed Kyleesha Wingfield-Hill as Director of the Office of Violence Prevention and Trauma Recovery (OVPTR) and Jessiah Paul as Director of the Brick City Peace Collective (BCPC). The new roles become effective immediately.

I was honored to be approached by the Office of Lakeesha Eure, the newly appointed Deputy Mayor of Public Safety for Newark, NJ, to develop a personal website that would serve as an essential digital platform for her public profile. The primary objective was to create a simple, streamlined, and highly functional website that would provide the necessary information to the public without overwhelming or distracting visitors. After discussions with her team, we determined that a single-page website would best meet her needs. This design would ensure that users could access all key information quickly and efficiently, without the need to navigate through multiple pages.

The concept behind the one-page structure was to create a focused user experience. With no additional pages such as "About," "Features," or "Contact Us," the website’s design would allow visitors to immediately engage with the content, reducing the potential for distraction and optimizing the flow of information. By keeping the navigation minimal, the site would allow for a clear and direct message, enabling users to learn more about Deputy Mayor Eure’s initiatives and leadership without unnecessary friction.

One of the most important elements of the project was integrating Lakeesha Eure’s personal brand identity. She requested that the website reflect her personal brand colors of purple and gold, which hold significant meaning. Purple represents royalty, dignity, and leadership, while gold symbolizes prestige and excellence—values that align with her role in public service. These colors were thoughtfully incorporated throughout the design to reinforce her position and mission in a visually cohesive manner, while maintaining an elegant and professional aesthetic.

This project marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with Newark, NJ, and led to many more opportunities to support the city’s digital initiatives. The experience of designing a clean, impactful website for such an important public figure was both rewarding and inspiring, and it was a privilege to help establish a digital presence that aligned with Deputy Mayor Eure’s leadership goals.
