LOVER'S ROCK - A PAPER PLANES COLLECTION

In Summer 2022, Paper Planes launched the highly anticipated "Lover's Rock" capsule collection, inspired by the iconic reggae subgenre of the same name. Lover's Rock, which emerged in London during the 1970s, is celebrated for its romantic, soulful sound and emotive lyrics, reflecting the heart of reggae music while also influencing wider cultural trends. For this project, Paper Planes sought to blend the timeless energy of this musical style with contemporary fashion design, creating a collection that both honored the past and embraced the future.

This project was particularly meaningful to me for several reasons. First, it held deep personal significance as I grew up listening to Lover’s Rock at home, with the music often serving as a backdrop to family gatherings and everyday life. The nostalgia I felt as I revisited those sounds and memories infused the design process with authenticity and passion.

Paper Planes entrusted me with the responsibility of designing prints and graphics that directly referenced the fashion, music, and visual culture of the Lover's Rock era. This allowed me to not only draw inspiration from the rich history of reggae and its cultural significance but also to reimagine these references through a modern lens. By merging retro visuals with contemporary, fashion-forward silhouettes, we were able to create a collection that both paid tribute to the past and felt fresh and relevant to today’s fashion landscape.

Looking back, this project stands out as one of my most rewarding experiences working with Paper Planes. The freedom to creatively interpret such a rich cultural moment while collaborating with a brand that understands the importance of storytelling through design made this project an absolute highlight of my career.
